Enugu state Governor elect, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi goes on a congratulatory rally around the state

There is no doubt that the Enugu State Governor-Elect, Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, has an outstanding disposition to leadership with exceptional and enduring attributes of humility, simplicity, vision, wisdom and passion for the good of the common man. The above qualities must have informed his decision, shortly after he was declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the winner of the April 11, 2015 governorship election in Enugu State, to lead a team of party leaders to traverse through the streets of Enugu, Udi, Nsukka, Awgu and Nkanu land to express his appreciation to the people of the State for electing him their next Governor. From one street to another, Ugwuanyi and his running mate, now the Deputy Governor-Elect, Hon. Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo, tirelessly waved at jubilant crowds who were excited, touched and humbled by the surprise visit of the incoming Governor to their domain. To the people, the uncommon and remarkable outing of the Governor-Elect was a new dawn in the political annals of Enugu State and a true reflection of the meaning of democracy as the government of the people by the people and for the people. Riding in an open roof Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV), Ugwuanyi brandished a designed green card with the inscription “Thank You All”. He could not hide his joy and profound gratitude to the people of the State, as he continuously waved and thanked them for their love and support. What was more significant was the fact that the visit gave him the ample opportunity to interact with the people, and also see for himself what the people really need. For instance, some residents of Abakpa Nike, Enugu, who were on ground to welcome the Governor-Elect, expressed great delight and surprise at such a rare and unexpected visit, and also used the opportunity to make some demands. It was at the area that some students of the Enugu State University of Technology and Science (ESUT), grabbed the bull by the horn and passionately presented a placard appealing for the reduction of their school fees. The ovation that greeted Ugwuanyi’s instant demonstration of his willingness to look into the matter will remain evergreen in the memories of all those that witnessed the incident. The people commended him there and then for his listening disposition. Prior to the victory rally and thank you visit, Ugwuanyi held a press briefing at the Campaign Office of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu where he presented his acceptance speech. In the said speech, he expressed gratitude to the leaders and members of his political party, the electorate and the entire people of the State for their tremendous support and assured them of his resolve to work hard towards the continued development of Enugu State. It was on the premise of the above that Ugwuanyi did not mince words when he said “I must appreciate the electorate who defied rain and sunshine to ensure that their votes counted. They are the true heroes of our democracy and will be surely rewarded with good governance”. He further said “I, once again re-commit to all our campaign promises in the 17 Local Government Areas of the State. I renew the message of peace, hope and development of our dear State, and to the principles of seamless continuity and consolidation. Government is a continuum. And when a people are lucky to have been blessed with a foresighted leader who has laid a solid foundation for the socio-economic development of our State within the last eight years, it is only rational to continue and consolidate that vision” In revealing his commitment to seeing through the legacy of the PRESENT 4-Point Agenda of the Governor Sullivan Chime administration, namely: Physical Infrastructure, Economic Expansion and Employment, Rural Development, and Service Delivery, while ushering in the NEW 4-Point Agenda, namely: Employment Generation, Social Services and Good Governance, Rural Development, Security and Justice, Ugwuanyi assured the people that both policy thrust of the PDP will run concurrently in the overall interest the State. A humble and patriotic man he is — Ugwuanyi did not only extend hands of fellowship to those who contested against him both in the party primaries and general election, he wholeheartedly invited them to come and join him in moving the State forward, because, according to him, “there is work to be done” With Ugwuanyi’s visionary and humble approach to governance, and the echo of his overwhelming popularity and acceptance in the State, many believe that he has truly come to make a great difference for good in a manner that has not been witnessed before. They are convinced that with the coming on board of his (Ugwuanyi) new ethos of leadership and development trajectory, he will deliver on his promises, take Enugu State to greater heights and bring succor to the common man.
